Аннотация. В статье анализируется непоследовательность взглядов американской политико-академической элиты на соотношение сил между США и РФ. С одной стороны, Россия характеризуется как бывшая великая держава, находящаяся в необратимом социально-экономическом упадке, с другой – выражается все бoльшая озабоченность по поводу укрепления позиций РФ в мире и даже по поводу ее вмешательства во внутренние дела ведущих стран Запада. Рассматриваются оценки американских экспертов российского (и не только) потенциала, а также укоренившиеся в сознании американской элиты представления о месте США и РФ в современной системе координат.
