Администрация Трампа заявляет о своем праве применять односторонние протекционистские меры в отношении торговых партнеров. При этом любые ответные действия рассматриваются как неправомерные и используются в качестве повода для дальнейшей эскалации агрессии. Маловероятно, что до президентских выборов склонность США к протекционизму уменьшится. Имеются также опасения, что позиция администрации, которая придет на смену действующей, может оказаться не менее жесткой.
