Аннотация. Статья посвящена истории и перспективам Военно-морского симпозиума стран Индийского океана (Indian Ocean Naval Symposium, IONS) – единственной структуры, координирующей деятельность государств этого региона в сфере безопасности. Анализируются предпосылки возникновения IONS, специфика его деятельности и интересы стран-участниц, а также исследуются возможные пути реформирования организации. Автор приходит к выводу, что, несмотря на многочисленные недостатки, формат организации, построенной на принципах неформального общения, оказался вполне работоспособным в условиях Индийского океана.
