The Council of Young Scientists and Postgraduate Students was re-established at IMEMO in 2003 on the initiative of postgraduate students and researchers to intensify scientific contacts and creative interaction of young researchers. The efforts of young specialists are focused on studying interdisciplinary problems of world economy and politics.

The members of the Council meet regularly to hold discussions on current issues of world economy and international relations, discuss articles and monographs prepared by young researchers, conduct approbation of candidate dissertations, roundtables, seminars and open lectures with the participation of leading specialists of IMEMO and other research institutes and universities.

Of particular importance for the work of the Council are the annual All-Russian Scientific Conferences held with the support of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in which young scientists – economists, political scientists, historians, geographers, as well as postgraduate students of IMEMO, as well as other leading Moscow and regional research centers and universities – take part. The Council has established creative interaction with young researchers from other institutes of the Department of Global Problems and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as the Institute of Economics, the Institute of World History, Lomonosov Moscow State University, MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm, Yaroslavl, and other regional universities.

Based on the results of the conferences, collections of reports are published as part of the IMEMO periodical "Global Development". Full texts are available on the Institute's website in the "Publications" section.

The Council of Young Scientists includes about 100 researchers and postgraduate students of IMEMO. The Council of Young Scientists aims to help postgraduate students and young scientists to integrate into the work of the Institute, develop their scientific potential and expand their network of academic contacts.
