Abstract. The article explores the causes of particularistic sentiment revival in certain member-states in the European Union in the end of 2012 and in the beginning of 2013. The example of Belgium, Great Britain, and Spain indicates most clearly that the determining factors of separatist movements rising are economic governance reforms in the EU. The activated reforms make a new emphasis on relations between EU institutions, national governments, and subnational authorities.
