Abstract. The article examines the current problems of France’s socio-political and economic development, as well as its foreign policy course, provides a detailed analysis of the results of the European Parliament elections, the reasons for the early dissolution of the National Assembly, and the results of the parliamentary elections. After the defeat of the pro-presidential forces in the European Parliament elections, Emmanuel Macron sought to quickly take revenge and change the balance of power in the National Assembly in his favor, but he miscalculated the situation and as a result lost his majority, facing an even more divided and fragmented parliament. The imperatives of improving public finances came into conflict with the multidirectional demands of political groups, which led to the second vote of no confidence in the government in the history of the Fifth Republic and the failure to adopt the country’s budget by the end of the year.

Keywords: France, Emmanuel Macron, parliamentary elections, European Parliament elections, Michel Barnier, Francois Bayrou, budget deficit
