Abstract. The conflict around Ukraine is in an active phase. Paradoxically, it was through the efforts of the Western countries which invested significant political resources and military and financial assistance in it that it gradually turned into a so called “gamechanger”. The trends of transformation of modern international relations and the parameters of the emerging world order depend on course and outcome of the conflict.In 2024, there was a significant technological escalation and geographical expansion of the conflict. The parties’ assessments of the situation and their interests (Ukraine,Western countries, on the one hand, and Russia, on the other) radically differ. The conflict of interests is deepening. The positions of the “war party” and the pro-Ukrainianlobby are strong in the United States and especially in Europe. In these circumstances, it is difficult to imagine the success of the conflict settlement within the framework ofthe negotiation process in 2025, despite the change of the presidential administration in the United States and the obvious change in the rhetoric of official Washington.
