Abstract. 2023, contrary to expectations, did not bring the Japanese economy a transition to sustainable growth on the basis of stable expansion of domestic demand. GDP growth rates showed a fading trend against the background ofstagnating consumption and investment, high dependence on the dynamics of net exports. The government’s attention was focused on reducing the vulnerability of the economy to high risks from adverse external influences, on maintaining positive expectations of business and population, as well as on optimizing the labor market. The main elements of fiscal and monetary policy did not undergo significant changes. Foreign policy priorities were still determined by the political elite's desire tosecure for Japan the role of the most important Asian link of the collective West, including its military-technological component.
