New NATO Strategy
// The Year of the Planet. 2022. Yearbook-2022. P. 55-66

Abstract. The key event in 2022 was the release of a new NATO strategic concept. Russia is named as the main security threat to the alliance. In this context, assistance to Ukraine from both NATO and its member states has significantly expanded. At the same time, contacts with Russia are maintained only by individual states on a bilateral basis, which entails the risk of incidents and provocations. China is included in the strategic concept for the first time and is called a challenge for the alliance. NATO continues to develop cooperation with US allies in the Indo-Pacific region. It can be argued that this year has become a period of alliance unity and mitigation of contradictions. But in the medium and long term, old disagreements will return and new ones will appear, as a result of the changing world order.

Keywords: NATO, conflict in Ukraine, NATO Strategic Concept, Strategic Compass, Finland and Sweden joining NATO, Russia—NATO, China—NATO
