Abstract. In the year of 2022 the Japanese economy went on with its prolonged and difficult rehabilitation after the «Covid» recession of 2020. Full return of optimism and steady expansion of consumer and investment activity was hampered by new external shocks, such as continued disruption of trade and production chains amid increased international tensions and conflicts, sharp price rises in global energy and food markets and an outbreak of inflation in developed economies. The government's attention shifted from restoring economic dynamism to maintaining stability and security. During his first year in PM’s office the new leader of Japan’s main ruling party modified domestic political language and ideology of development strategy but validated practical policy lines and political philosophy characteristic of the thinking of Japan’s privileged class. At the same time, the hierarchy of goals saw a clear consolidation of items related to enhancing national security as a broad comprehensive task. Foreign policy continued the trends of the previous years while its priorities were determined by a broad internal consensus on Japan’s desired international position.
