Abstract. Among European countries, Italy suffered the largest losses from the pandemic. The state took a wide range of measures to support businesses and families. Within the framework of the EU’s New Generation strategy, Italy received the largest allocation package, that makes it possible to carry out a broad modernization of the economy. The political situation remained tense, with a coalition government of Democrats and populists struggling to maintain power.
