Abstract. The year of 2020 in Germany, as in the whole world, was marked by the coronavirus, the pandemic of which had a negative impact not only on the economy, but also on politics. CDU, which dominates in German political system, due to the political crisis in Thuringia, happened short before the pandemic, was faced the task of electing a new chairman, who will have to overcome the split in the party and work out its new political platform. The election of a new chairman has been postponed due to the pandemic, and the vote in the Bundestag will take place already in October 2021.
