Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of the main directions and development trends of China in 2020. The negative impact of the coronavirus epidemic on the domestic policy and economy of the country, as well as the measures of the authorities to combat it, are examined in detail. As main milestones of domestic political development were highlighted the adoption by China of the Hong Kong Security Protection Law, decisions of the NPC and government sessions, the 5th Plenum of the 19th Communist Party of China Central Committee, aimed at economic recovery, search and formation of a new model of the country’s development. The dynamics of economic recovery and the main components of the new strategy within the framework of the implementation of the ideas of «double circulation» and the formation of a «new architectonics of development» are shown, the main elements of which are reliance on the domestic market and a focus on innovation, expansion of openness, development and implementation of advanced technologies. The state of Russian–Chinese relations is considered separately.
