Abstract. Currently, five Central Asian states, formed after the collapse of the USSR, have transformed their political systems into centralized ones combining the elements of authoritarianism with «controlled democracy». The dynamics of the development of political processes in the states of Central Asia (CA) indicate an important place occupied there by the problem of transit of power. Attention is also drawn to the variety of types of transfer of power in the Central Asian states, where transit is solved in different ways. The experience of Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, where the problem of transit of power acquired its own specifics, is indicative in this connection. The transit model proposed by Uzbekistan is notable for its originality. A unique situation for Central Asia is seen in Kazakhstan, where the process of «controlled» transfer of power has been launched since 2019.
