Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of socio-economic reforms and the foreign policy of President E. Macron. Particular attention is paid to addressing the reasons for the unprecedented in scope of social movements that swept the country. It is concluded that the establishment of a dialogue between the authorities and citizens, as well as the introduction of additional social measures, allowed to reduce the intensity of public discontent. The results of the elections to the European Parliament preserved favorable political conditions for the continuation of transformations and confirmed the leadership of two political movements — the ruling «Forward, Republic!» and the far-right «National Association», as well as the absence of a credit-worthy alternative to the policies of the former system parties. It is emphasized that in 2019 there was a clear activation of the Franco-Russian dialogue.
