The main focus of the Fall–Winter issue of IMEMO journal “Pathways to Peace and Security” (№ 2(59), 2020) is on pandemics as threats to human security. The respective section is composed of seven articles written by Russian and foreign political scientists, virologists, economists, legal experts, and sociologists. It includes articles on the general aspects of the theme and pieces that explore select national and regional approaches to dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic (in China, the United States, Italy and the EU, post-Soviet states), also analyzed in comparative context. The conflict studies section is completely devoted to the analysis of crises and conflicts in post-Soviet countries. It includes articles on domestic and international aspects of the 2020 crisis in Belarus and on the background, causes, and the regional dimension of the new round of armed conflict in and around Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the prospects of its resolution. The arms control and disarmament section explores the prospects for the START-3 prolongation by analyzing the views of the U.S. political elites and experts.
