Abstract. International legal grounds for protection of forced migrants are examined through analysis of systemic approaches to admission of such persons in the conditions of mass influx caused by armed conflicts. The specifics of the legal status of refugees and individuals who have been granted asylum are considered within the framework of special protection provided to select categories of protected persons in situation of hostilities. Key international legal elements that constitute the institute of temporary asylum are also analyzed.
Keywords: international legal protection of forced migrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, guarantees of temporary protection, right to freedom of movement, protected persons, International Humanitarian Law, the EU migration crisis
