Abstract
What is the international legal nature and status of private military and security companies? Are they mercenaries of the 21st century and where do these formations come from? The article traces the historical evolution of military services and provides an analysis of the international legal and normative context of the problem. In conclusion, it offers a possible solution to the problem of establishing the status of private military and security companies using current international law.
