Abstract. To illustrate the possibilities of the US-Russia cooperation on antiterrorism, the article analyzes the case of bilateral Working Group on Afghanistan, created a year before the attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States, and several other examples of the early 2000s when the US-Russia relations were on the rise. It also emphasizes the role of the intelligence sector in countering terrorism and the need for bilateral and international intelligence cooperation and intelligence-sharing on terrorist threats, despite any disagreements on any other issues.
