Abstract. The article treats “hybrid war” as an interim stage of transition from one generation of wars to another rather than an absolutely “new” type of warfare. The author suggests to go beyond the combination of regular and irregular warfare which is hardly new and instead try to capture the innovative potential that is contained in the modern notion of “hybrid war” and partly explains the wide spread of this term today.
