Abstract. The article focuses on the dynamics, the most urgent problems and the prospects of the Russian military reform under the new international political and economic conditions accentuated by the further deterioration of Russia’s relations with the West and of the economic situation. The authors stress the need for rational modernization of Russia’s defense industrial complex and armed forces and emphasize asymmetrical deterrence as one of their main present military/defense strategies.
