Abstract. A.V. Akimov and A.I. Yakovlev in their presentation examine long-term perspectives of the world development (up to 2100) observing mainly demographic and resource trends. Their analysis is placed in the context of civilizations. The authors suggest four scenarios: 1) convergence of civilizations; 2) the West keeps its leadership; 3) leadership passes to the East and the South; 4) struggle for resources. The reforms necessary to stimulate the process of development are also examined. These points are discussed at the seminar.
