Abstract. The author aims to understand the unique and indispensable status of library in the era of electronic revolution, to comprehend at least some of most determining features of this era, namely the characteristics of its technological, cultural and mental peculiarity. There is a need to develop – at least in general and preliminary terms – the philosophy of a modern library that takes into account the most important technological, cultural and mental dimensions of the modern world, including Russia.
