Abstract. The publication represents the outcomes of the regular academic seminar “Current problems of development” conducted in the Center of the problems of development and modernization of IMEMO RAS. The report analyses general trends and national specifics of newly industrialized countries, their experiences and trends. This is a starting point for predicting future role and significance of these notable players on the world market. It is concluded that, possibly, we can see similar evolution in other states of Asian-Pacific region, whose importance in the world economy will, no doubt, continue to grow in the foreseeable future.
