Abstract. The traditionally calculated GDP will remain the basis of national accounting for a long time. However, there is a need to modernize approaches to the evaluation of the results of the economic activities. Among the priority actions for our country are the reduction of a commodity orientation, the accelerated development of manufacturing sector, especially engineering, the strong reduction in public spending that do not increase public welfare (e.g., the reduction in the number of officials and deputies, as well of the scope of their privileges, the effective actions against corruption, embezzlement, and misuse of budget funds).
