The author reveals the circumstances of Yakovlev's appointment to the directorship of IMEMO and characterizes his activities in the office. Yakovlev managed to stop the attacks on the Institute and restore it to normal operating conditions. In the Institute's history these two years are known as "a time of rehabilitation."
