
Abstract. The publication presents materials of the session of the Academic Council of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences, on the subject “Innovation Policy of Japan”. The main report at the Council was presented by V.K. Zaitsev, Head of Section for Japanese Economic and Politic Studies, Center for Asia Pacific Studies at IMEMO. In the report, structural change in the national research system amidst the "hard 1990s", as well as corporate level, quality and priorities problem of R&D are examined, conclusions on Japan's innovation development are drawn.
