Abstract. The article is dedicated to the issue of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) evolution since its beginning in 2000. To date it has evolved into an international structure with a wide range of missions on security and stability in Central Asia, increasingly setting long-term economic cooperation goals as well. In this sense, China is posing as highly interested in stability near its national borders in Central Asia by means of trade creation. This may obviously become one of important items of Russia–China political dialogue.

Keywords: Central Asia, CAR, SCO, Russia–China relations, Central Asian states
