Abstract. Ethnopolitics of Kyrgyzstan is a mechanism of interaction between different ethnic communities and the activities of state authorities aimed at ensuring unity and social peace. After gaining independence in 1991, Kyrgyzstan faced the task of building a civic nation – a joint political community of “Kyrgyzstanians” uniting all ethnic groups of the country, and the formation of an appropriate civic identity. The state seeks to preserve interethnic peace, prevent conflicts and, as far as possible, take into account the interests of national minorities. This article examines the main areas of Kyrgyzstan's ethnopolitics, including efforts to create a civic nation, language policy, measures to prevent discrimination and interethnic conflicts, programs to promote tolerance and multiculturalism, the activities of state authorities and public organizations, and the reflection of official ethnopolitical tasks in the education system.
