Abstract. With the arrival of President Trump in the White House, there was hope for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis. However, the negotiation process has actually reached an impasse due to the opposed interests of the parties to the conflict. Russia is trying to eliminate the imbalances in the European security system and wants to eliminate the Western project Ukraine as anti-Russia. The United States and its European allies, on the contrary, seek to keep Ukraine in this format. This contradiction creates significant difficulties on the way to a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
