Abstract. Currently, the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) acts as an international intergovernmental organization that is in the process of developing a common platform for further integration, as evidenced, in particular, by the adoption of the “Turkish World Vision 2040” Program. There are noticeable difficulties on this way, which obviously will require serious efforts from the member countries to overcome. The development of balanced approaches to solving common problems for the Turkic states, including economic cooperation within the framework of the association and security issues, is an absolute priority. At the same time strengthening the international position of the organization, its authority and, to a certain extent, prestige presupposes closer institutional cooperation with the United Nations. In this regard, it is natural for the OTS to seek observer status in the General Assembly, which was formalized by a corresponding appeal in 2011. The consideration of the draft resolution caused an acute controversy. No consensus has yet been reached on the issue of granting OTS observer status at the UN General Assembly.
