Abstract. The article examines US policy towards the Caspian region that has a great importance for the world markets because of its large oil and gas resources as well as  its being a kind of crossroads of transcontinental transport communications in the East-West and North-South directions. The region has a strategic importance for Washington, especially against the backdrop of increasing competition from the world’s key powers for control of the region. The article provides an analysis of Washington’s extremely offensive and proactive policy in the Caspian countries, as well as its main tools on the way of its implementation towards the region. Also US policy approaches to reformatting transport routes bypassing Russia and Iran – two key competitors of the West – have been identified and the main obstacles to the total “conquest” of this space by the United States have been discovered. At the same time, there is a strong consistency in Washington’s policy towards the Caspian region, which can be seen quite clearly on the way of its realization in this area.
