Abstract. On March 19, 2022, Serdar Berdimuhamedow succeeded his father, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, as president. However, no significant changes have taken place in Turkmenistan so far during his presidency: the authoritarian regime continues, there is no freedom of speech, and human rights are not protected. The country remains closed and isolated from the international community. Meanwhile, the ex-president has not weakened his political influence at all and fully controls the activities of his son.
