Abstract. The article examines main trends in the political development of the Republic of Kazakhstan during the period after resignation of N. Nazarbayev from the presidential post and K.-J. Tokayev coming to power. It analyzes the growth of the opposition movement taking as an example its most active representative – “Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan” under the leadership of M. Ablyazov.
