The article surveys relations between Russia and Ukraine during the years of  Ukrainian independence. The causes and the story of an outbreak of the Ukrainian power crisis of 2013–2014 are presented from an eyewitness’s point of view.
In author’s opinion, positive relations with Ukraine are no less important for the Russian Federation and in some aspects are even more significant than those with the USA or any other country.
