Abstract. The article analyzes roots of formation and the current state of Islamic religious education in the post-Soviet space and describes stages of its development after the USSR collapse. Islamic schools of different grades are analyzed and their distribution among post-Soviet Moslem countries is presented. The Islamic education in the post-Soviet space is now in its period of stabilization after a sharp rise in the 1990s and it is necessary to continue studying tendencies in its development taking into account a growing role of the state in the process.
