Abstract. The current US policy towards countries of the trans-Caucasus in general and Armenia in particular has gathered a high speed. Taking into account foreign policy priorities of Georgia aimed at integration into North Atlantic structures and of a relatively independent Azerbaijan the distancing of Armenia from Russia towards the West may seriously transform the strategic configuration in the whole of the trans-Caucasus which is unacceptable for preserving Russia’s strategic interests in the region.
