Transport Projects of Azerbaijan

Abstract. Today the main task of Azerbaijan economy apart from energy development is to promote infrastructure projects in order to transform the republic into a regional transport hub. Azerbaijan is a participant of two global transport projects – East–West and North–South corridors. The recently commissioned railway line Baku–Tbilisi–Kars is a part of the East–West corridor. The railway line Astara–Resht, which is a part of  the North–South corridor, is under construction now. Besides Azerbaijan  is also building a new international trade port at Alyat in the  Caspian Sea which will become part of the Alyat free-trade zone.
