Abstract. One of the main directions of foreign policy of Turkmenistan, which has large re-serves of natural gas, is the search for new transportation routes of this raw material to the international market. For Ashgabat, the creation of new gas-export pipelines is becoming more urgent due to the sharply increased dependence on the main importer of Turkmen gas, which today is China. At present, there is a certain progress in the projects for the construction of gas pipelines in the direction of South Asia (TAPI) and Europe through the Caspian Sea. In addition, there is an intensification of the dialogue between Moscow and Ashgabat on the issue of the resumption of supplies of Turkmen gas to Russia.

Keywords: Turkmenistan, TAPI, Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline, Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, strategic partnership between Russia and Turkmenistan
