Shapsugi of Western Caucasus at the Beginning of the 21st Century

Abstract. External forces continue their attempts to exploit the “Circassian factor” for anti-Russian ends. This is done in particular regarding the Shapsugi, a tiny people of an Adygei origin, residing now in the area of Large Sochi. For these purposes certain historical events are being interpreted as a genocide of the Adygeis.
