Abstract. The article analyses basic achievements and faults of the Customs Union and of the United Economic Space set by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan during the initial stage of their activities. Underlying the successful, on the whole, start of these Eurasian integration organizations, the author notes serious obstacles and challenges, internal as well as external, that stay in their way and analyses their causes.
