Abstract. Mining and metallurgical industries constitute one of the basic sectors of the Ukrainian national economy largely influencing the pace of its development. At the roots of a recession experienced by these industries over the last few years lie both external reasons caused by the global economic and financial crisis and internal ones brought about mainly by an extremely low rate of technical modernization of most enterprises.
