The monthly publication has been established in 1956 and its first issue appeared in January 1957. Now it is the leading multidisciplinary serial in Russia and CIS on the current theoretical and practical issues of the international policy, world economic relations, developments in the particular countries and macro-regions.

Academic journal edited by IMEMO's Group on Peace and Conflict Studies covers various aspects of contemporary armed conflicts and other forms of collective violence, the problems of conflict prevention, management and post-conflict peace-building, and other human security issues at different levels of world politics.

The journal focuses on the comprehensive fundamental and applied analysis of world and regional economic, political and social development, as well as on global and regional military and non-military security in order to provide solutions for complex and long-term forecasting, improve and develop new forecasting technologies in social sciences.

Overview of developments in the world at large and in post-Soviet countries against the background of Russia’s strategic priorities. Analysis is focused on challenges and problems the Russian government and business face in their relations with newly independent post-Soviet states.

The journal is devoted to the theoretical and applied aspects of shaping polycentric world order studies. The editors and authors of the journal focus on issues of economic, social and political modernization, transformation of post-colonial societies and neocolonialism, socioeconomic and political development of Global South countries, regionalization. Another important theme is the sociopolitical and ideological-political processes of transformation of societies, economic and political systems of the countries of Pacific and South Asia, Africa, Latin America, the development of their human capital. The third key theme is international processes related to strengthening the economic and political positions of leading developing countries.

IMEMO has developed a system of indices for comparative assessment of the maritime potential of 100 countries.

The IMEMO Council of Young Scientists and Postgraduate Students holds annual All-Russian scientific conferences, attended by young scientists – economists, political scientists, historians, geographers, and postgraduate students. Collections of conference papers are published in IMEMO's periodical, "World Development."

The annual peer-reviewed scientific and analytical yearbook of IMEMO. Articles and analytical reviews written by scientists from the IMEMO and other leading scientific centers on main issues of the development of the world economy and modern international relations are published on pages of the Yearbook.
