In 2024, the United States updated its Arctic Strategy in response to important global changes: the expansion of NATO with the entry of Finland and Sweden, and active cooperation between China and Russia on Arctic policy. Washington's goal in this document is to strengthen the national defence of both the US and its closest allies, and to protect their interests in the face of new challenges. This article explores the ways in which the White House has attempted to strengthen collective security in Northern Europe and increase its presence in the region. Moreover, ше identifies the contradictions associated with the Nordic countries' attempt to maintain a foreign policy course independent of Washington.
