The closest US allies are suffering being caught in the crossfire of the first US-Chinese tech collision, which takes place in fields of high-speed 5G networks deployment. Despite the European initial desire to determine the fate of Huawei, Chinese tech corporation, to be or not to be engaged in the construction of European telecommunication infrastructure, the position of the UK and the EU leaders is changing in favor of loyalty to the United States. On the one hand, the implementation of such a tough policy towards Chinese companies is aimed not only at combating threats from the Chinese intelligence, but also at eliminating competitors in the high-tech industry. The United States is afraid of losing its technological advantage in a number of industries and sees it an important stage in the struggle for future economic, scientific and technological leadership. On the other hand, what is happening is a certain trend to protect “digital sovereignty” of countries while the requirements for the level of trust in computer systems are tightened. The resolution of this conflict may set an important precedent, since it will show whether the United States is able to build consensus among its closest allies, take the lead in further combating global threats and withstand the growing influence of China.
