The influence of Western NGOs on Mongolia`s socio-political development. Current situation // Postsovetskie issledovaniya = Post-Soviet Studies. 2025. Vol. 8. № 2. Р. 198–213. (In Russ.)

The article examines the work and influence of Western NGOs (USA, Germany, Japan, etc.) in Mongolia. Despite its remoteness and closed nature, Mongolia has been the scene of an active battle for minds and soft power on the part of Western NGOs for almost three decades. Their main goal is to reduce the influence and potential for cooperation between Russia and China. The experience of organizing a «color revolution» a few years ago suggests that the potential of such political technologies can be used once again. The work of Western NGOs is carried out in three main directions - religious, environmental, cultural and political. Similarly to other countries of the postSoviet space (and Mongolia, given its close relations with the USSR since the 1920s, can largely be considered part of the post-Soviet space), NGOs work mainly with young people - future managers, journalists, entrepreneurs. After April 2022, taking into account the relocation of a number of anti-Russian activists, Mongolia also became a training territory for Buryat and Tuvan separatists, who are actively supported by the West. The influence of such actors on the socio-political situation in the country can hardly be overestimated. There are several thousand diverse NGOs operating in the country, but the main directions of their agendas overlap, which poses a threat not only to internal stability in Mongolia, but also to its relations with its neighbors.
