The article examines the current situation with the Turkish ethnic minority in Bulgaria and factors that impede the development of the Bulgarian civic identity. Within the framework of this problem, the author evaluates the level of ethno-political conflict in the country in conditions of growing interethnic instability in the neighboring Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia.
