The ñurrent period is characterized by a significant strengthening of the positions of Asian banks, which in many respects were ahead of the credit institutions of other countries. At the same time, they still lag behind the international banking giants of the West in such an important area as cross-border lending, occupying a relatively low market share in these operations even in their region. Along with internal factors (weakness of corporate governance, underdevelopment of certain aspects of banking regulation), this is also determined by their position in the field of international cross-border transactions – the existing structure of funding operations, which is mainly short-term in foreign currencies.
