The welfare state in Greece: origins, development, reforms

The ongoing economic crisis in Greece created an agenda for profound social reforms, leading to the transformation of the national model of welfare state, which existed for three previous decades. The article spotlights the history and specifics of Greek welfare model as well as past and present efforts for its modernization. Special attention is paid to an assessment of efficiency and probable consequences of the current pension, healthcare and labour market reforms.
