The paper authored by scholars from the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) presents the results of a research project ― Regulating interethnic relations and managing ethnic and social conflicts in the contemporary world: the resource potential of civic identity (a comparative political analysis) supported by the Russian Science Foundation. These include a typology of ethnic conflicts and an open database reflecting their current state and prospects for regulation with a special accent on identity politics. The research focus is on post-Soviet states and Central and Eastern Europe where nation-building and identity politics reflect the dynamic political transformations of the post-socialist period. A Russian – English vocabulary on the terms and new priorities in academic research and public discourse on migration and interethnic relations and a map of ethnic conflicts in different regions of the world are integrated into an analytical tool for assessing interethnic conflict potential and possible regulatory mechanisms.
